According to PlasticSurgery.org here is a cost breakdown of a typical breast augmentation procedure in 2009:

Implants: $1,000-$1,300
Anesthesia: $600-$800
Facility Fee: $800-$1,200
Surgeon Fee: $1,600-$6,700

So I guess you pay for the skill level of your surgeon. Remember “you get what you pay for”!

With the staggering cost of the surgery, I had consultations with a few surgeons prior to my surgery. Basically (in most cases) breast augmentation is considered a “pure cosmetic procedure” by most insurance companies and as such they are not covered. However you can always consult with your surgeon to see what payment plans is offered. For instance the plan I worked out was a 0% interest loan over a 1 year period (where I maid monthly payments).

It is always good to have an understanding of any potential adverse side effects of breast augmentation surgery. Some potential side effects may include:

Infection: in some rare instances the incision may become infected resulting in the necessary removal of the implant. The implant can be put back in once the infection is healed.

Symmastia: This is the appearance of breast being “too close together”. To solve the issue additional surgeries may be required

Bottoming Out: In some cases the implant can slip to low in the breast tissue. This can cause the nipple to point upward.
